What is hypnosis and how does it work?

In a natural way we can all experience hypnosis, often called trance, in our daily life. Some people describe hypnosis is as if they are daydreaming, or just like that relaxed feeling we experience as we are about o drift off to sleep, but hypnosis is not the same as sleep.

Everyone’s description of their hypnosis experience will vary. Some people experience a pleasant relaxation, but for others relaxation to experience hypnosis may not be right for them.

Hypnosis is gentle, and could enable someone who really wants to make a positive change to make that change quickly. Hypnosis can be described as a time of focused attention that allows the subconscious mind to accept a desired change in the way someone thinks, feels and behaves, for example to reduce anxiety in a situation or in everyday life, and instead be more confident and positive in life. Hypnosis can be used to help with breaking unwanted habits such as smoking or vaping.

Using positive words, the subconscious mind accepts positive changes to unhelpful habits, beliefs, behaviours and ways of thinking but only in ways that are right for that person. During hypnosis a new insight and understanding can be made within the subconscious mind, bringing about positive changes that enrich a person’s life.

Disclaimer: Results may vary from person to person. Hypnotherapy is not suitable if you have epilepsy, psychosis or a personality disorder.

3

In hypnosis, am I still in control?

Yes, all the time. Even though you be enjoying a time of relaxation, you can safely come out of hypnosis at any time you wish. Many people find hypnosis very relaxing and a pleasant experience, but how you embrace hypnosis and the changes you want to make is always in your control.

4

Will I hear what is said to me?

Some people chose to hear what is said by the therapist, others chose to let their mind wander and just enjoy the relaxation.

All the words that are said by the therapist are about informing your subconscious minds about making the positive changes you want to make for yourself. Your subconscious mind will only accept and act upon the positive words that are right for you to help you make the changes you wish to make.

5

After hypnosis will I be ok to drive, go back to work or just do normal things in my day?

Yes. When your hypnotherapy session is finished, you will safely and gently be guided backout of hypnosis to being fully alert just like you are normally.
