I recently had the privilege of working with a woman who had successfully quit smoking on her own but found herself entangled in the world of vaping. She reached out, expressing her desire to stop as she realised it was becoming as problematic as smoking, if not worse. The constant presence of the vape in her hand had become a stark reminder of her struggle.
The Background
After years of successfully abstaining from smoking, life threw her a curveball, leading her to take up vaping during a stressful period. Believing it would be easier to quit and less harmful than smoking, she soon discovered that neither was true for her.
She soon discovered that vaping had become a constant companion. She shared that she carried the vape all the time and realised she was constantly vaping in the day time. She said it had really hit her when she realised, if she woke in the night, she had started having a vape, and she was horrified with herself. The realisation prompted her to seek assistance. She had decided she need and wanted to stop vaping, in her words to 'get her life back’.
Setting the Stage
During our initial discussion, we explored the underlying stressors that led her to vaping and debunked the misconceptions surrounding its perceived harmlessness. The client expressed a strong desire to quit vaping and outlined her goal of not substituting it with any other habit.
We delved into the daily and long-term benefits of quitting vaping and collaboratively established a preparation plan to ensure she was ready to quit when the time came.
The Hypnotherapy Session
At the scheduled appointment, we revisited her decision to quit vaping and examined the multitude of reasons she had identified for making this positive life change. Addressing each concern, I had tailored a personalised hypnotherapy session designed to reinforce her commitment and resilience. At the end of the session the client told me she had enjoyed the experience, and was excited to see what happened, feeling ready the positive changes to come.
The Outcome
Just over a week after the hypnotherapy session, the client returned her feedback form - she felt liberated as she had completely given up the vaping.
She reported feeling a surge of energy and an overall sense of well-being. Breaking free from vaping not only enhanced her own well-being but also had positive benefits for the wider family who were also delighted by her accomplishment. They shared in her joy, delighted that she was no longer sneaking off for a vape. Importantly, this positive transformation allowed her to spend more quality time with her grandchildren, setting a healthier example for them.
If you find yourself in a similar situation, know that support is available, and positive change is possible to regain control and lead a healthier, vape-free life.
