How Hypnotherapy Helped a Student Nurse Find Her Confidence and Achieve Her Degree

Embarking on the training to become a nurse is no easy feat. It requires dedication, resilience, and confidence. For one student nurse I had the privilege to work with, hypnotherapy became the key to unlocking her potential, boosting her confidence, and ultimately achieving her degree.


The Struggle: Overcoming Self-Doubt and Anxiety


Meet Emily, a passionate and determined student nurse. Despite her dedication and hard work, Emily struggled with crippling self-doubt and anxiety. The pressures of university studies, clinical rotations, and exams began to take a toll on her mental health. She often questioned her abilities and feared failure.


Emily’s anxiety manifested in various ways: sleepless nights before exams, nervousness during clinical assessments, and a constant feeling of being overwhelmed. These challenges threatened to derail her dreams of becoming a nurse.


From Scepticism to Hope


Desperate for a solution, Emily reached out to me after a friend had used hypnotherapy to stop smoking. Initially sceptical, Emily decided to give it a try and scheduled her appointment on her day off.


From her first session, Emily experienced a lovely sense of relaxation and comfort. Hypnotherapy involved guided relaxation, deep concentration, and positive suggestion, all aimed at addressing her subconscious fears and building her self-confidence.

After her first session, Emily began to feel more confident and even started enjoying her placements on the wards, something she hadn't done for a while. She was surprised to find herself happier at work.


Without even thinking about it, Emily sat down a couple of evenings after her first session and organised her study schedule for her final year. This made her feel back in control and confident that achieving her degree was within reach.


Emily also learned effective self-help stress reduction techniques, such as deep breathing and visualisation, which she could use during exams and clinical rotations.


The Transformation: Building Confidence and Achieving Success


After attending three hypnotherapy sessions, Emily noticed remarkable changes in her mindset and behaviour. Her confidence began to grow, and she started to believe in her abilities. The techniques she learned became invaluable, helping her stay focused in her studies and deal with challenging situations on the wards.


Later that year, Emily visited my practice in Elland near Halifax, proudly presenting her results. She had achieved her lifelong ambition of becoming a qualified nurse.


It has been a privilege to be part of Emily’s journey. Her visit to share her results was wonderful. Maybe one day, Emily will be the nurse who cares for one of my loved ones, or even me!
